Caroline’s is drawn from the vineyard’s broader five-clone selection: 115, 667, 777, UCD6 and Abel. The 2020 retains red and dark cherry, raspberry and damson plum beneath dried herbs, mushroom and earth, with clove and anise in the background. Powdery tannins and measured acidity carry a broad, savoury finish.

VINTAGE

Warm, dry conditions and a favourable flowering period produced small, intensely flavoured berries. The five clones reached maturity separately and were harvested between 11 and 29 April.

VINEYARD

Single-vineyard fruit from the Clos Ostler monopole in the Waitaki Valley. The dry-grown vines occupy a north-facing limestone escarpment at approximately 208–230 metres. Caroline’s is drawn from the broader five-clone planting of 115, 667, 777, UCD6 and Abel.
