Caroline's Pinot Noir 2021

$120

96 Points, Gold, Three Trophies – International Wine Challenge

A defining Pinot Noir of depth, concentration, fine structure, freshness and longevity.

Caroline’s is drawn from the vineyard’s broader five-clone selection: 115, 667, 777, UCD6 and Abel. The 2021 shows damson plum, black cherry and blackcurrant, followed by clove, dried thyme and sage. Fine, supple tannins frame the concentrated fruit, while vibrant acidity and a persistent mineral line carry the savoury finish.

Vintage & Wine Details

VINTAGE

Warm, dry summer conditions and persistent westerly winds produced small, concentrated berries. The five clones reached maturity separately and were harvested between 7 and 20 April.

VINEYARD

Single-vineyard fruit from the Clos Ostler monopole in the Waitaki Valley. The dry-grown vines occupy a north-facing limestone escarpment at approximately 208–230 metres. Caroline’s is drawn from the broader five-clone planting of 115, 667, 777, UCD6 and Abel.

WINEMAKING

The individual clones were harvested separately and matured for 15 months in French oak barriques, of which 20% were new.
